The Del Brown Permit Tournament is scheduled for July 14-17, 2013 in Key West, FL. The event will take place at Hurricane Hole Marina on Stock Island with boats leaving and returning to the marina each day. Fishing days are July 15, 16 and 17, 2013 and anglers of all abilities are welcome to enter the tournament. The tournament is limited to 15 boats with one angler on each boat. Anglers compete for top honors in this prestigious tournament now in its 13th year.
The late Del Brown is currently the only angler in history to have caught more than 500 permit on his fly rod. The Del Brown Permit Tournament is dedicated to the sport of fly fishing for permit which Brown helped make famous here in the Florida Keys. Brown tied a fly called the “Merkin” that was a close enough representation of a crab that permit rushed to eat it. Today there are many styles of the Merkin fly, most of them are a representation of Brown’s crab.
