After being granted a license by the U.S. Treasury, the Miami based firm TeleCuba Communications will lay a fiber optic cable between Key West and Havana.

According to the firm, the 110-mile cable will cost about $18 million and should be operational by 2011,.

TeleCuba said the installation will allow for high-speed Internet and cable television, which are currently not economicly feasible for residents of Cuba.
