The conference begins on Friday evening, May 14, at 6 p.m. with a reception at the Harry S. Truman Little White House which will feature good conversation, sea breezes, tours of the Little White House, and an interview with President Truman’s former White House assistant Ken Hechler about Truman’s relationship with General Douglas MacArthur. On Saturday, May 15, a conference of prominent scholars from the United States, Asia, and Europe will explore the Truman administration’s halting progress toward the creation of a new geopolitical balance in East Asia following World War II.
